Our Lady of Peace
With La Cruz being the sister pueblo to Bucerias, you should know that yesterday was also the opening day of the Bucerias Festival. The Bucerias Festival is named, “Our Lady of Peace”, the patron saint of Bucerias, and also is the name of the Catholic Church in the Bucerias Town Square. There are rides and games on the north side of Bucerias Centro. Due to the town square being torn up, the music festivities will be north of Luna Lounge in the vacant lot where they have built a stage. (see allBucerias.com for more details)
The Blessing of the Boats
On January 24th, the Bucerias beach will be the place to be with the arrival of the boat parade from La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. It all starts around 10:00 when everyone starts gathering. You will see the local riders on horseback dressed in their traditional costumes. The women have beautiful dresses spread out over the horses’ backs.  Local dancers who will be in Mayan costumes and will perform in the grounds of the Church at 11.00.
The panga boats plan to arrive about noon, and then all of the boat crews will go to the local church for a blessing. The boats are very colorful and decorated with palm leaves, paper flowers and flags.  The local fishing boats are called pangas, and they all take it in turns to head at full speed onto the beach, with the roaring  applause of the crowd. Its really something to see a panga pull onto the beach! The procession then goes up to the Church carrying freshly caught fish, fruit, bread, and of course tequila, all to receive a blessing for the next year,  along with the colorfully dressed Mayan dancers in their honor.

The Taste of La Cruz is Saturday on the La Cruz Malecon opening at 3pm with an amazing musical line for you tasteposter.pngwith Luna Rumba starting at 3:30, (featuring Geo & Cheko), along with those Crazy Bitches (from the Luna Lounge), Latcho & Andrea (the Blond Gypsies) and Bryan Savage with the Banderas Bay Jazz All Stars.
