Exciting week around the La Cruz Community!
True to its fishing village past the docks are alive with fisherman from near and afar in the La Cruz community. The Torneo Internacional de Pesca Deportiva de La Cruz de Huanacaxtle or International Tournament of Sport Fishing of La Cruz of Huanacaxtle commences today with 38 +/- boats leaving the marina on a major competition with the goal of ‘catching the big one’. Sailfish, Marlin and Dorado are the focus. Click here to view the entire schedule of events.
The festivities started last night ~ for the public ~ behind the scenes activity have been abuzz for quite some time! Mostly the fisherman and their families, but us and few other locals enjoyed food and drink and my fave, fireworks! Let’s wish them all Buena Suerte and viajes seguros/Good luck and safe travels as the fisherman spend their days this week at sea. If you want to be a part of the excitement, be at the dock around 5:00pm everyday to celebrate the weighing of the biggest catch of the day!
Living in this La Cruz community tourist town is transitional in nature, by that I mean people come and go and this week (Villa Amor del Mar) we are losing one of our favorite families. Nick, Chely and Taisha have become family to us all; Chely serving us at Ana Bananas; Nick serenading us at various establishments and we’ve delighted in watching Taisha grow before our eyes into the little angel she is. There will be several sendoffs as we celebrate their exciting new career as they head to the US.
Join us tonight at Philo’s at 8:30 for live music, and Friday at Ana Bananas!
